FIELDED RELEASES "WHITE DEATH" EP March 26 2011, 3 Comments

We are proud to announce the return of Lindsay Powell to Infinity Cat, with the digital release of "White Death", by her solo project Fielded. Lindsay is also the vocalist of Ga'an (Captcha Records) and one half of sister songstresses Festival (Language of Stone). And thousands of you own her two brilliant Cake Bake Betty albums. By using vocals and minimal instrumentation, Powell explores the many moods that can be created through experimentation with voice as leader rather than follower of the amplified instrument. She moves from dark to light and back to dark - a church chorus, cacophonous chants, a post-apocalyptic pop paradise, but always of the throat; fluent and deranged. The voice is the thread throughout, tying together juxtaposing moments and revealing a world both archaic and contemporary.
Check out the beautiful video HERE and tour dates HERE.
"It's increasingly melodic and abstract. There's really an amazing voice at work here, I obviously can't get over it, and the fact that this all was created single handedly is all the more impressive. She's the complete package of talent and experiment. It's an incredibly varied EP, not showing off, just letting you in on this hazy dream that begins and ends with Fielded." (7 Inches)
"It’s just like someone put a spell on me… Bewitched! Since I discovered Fielded there's no need for anything else!" (Delicious Scopitone)
"Grasping the aura that Fielded channels requires no further exploration than what White Death attains. The dark semblance of Powell's music is expanded to its full potential, ranging from supernatural, even Goblin-esque pop to ghostly, heartbroken hymns. The equilibrium between variation and cohesion is well-established, evoking anticipation for what will emerge from the project in the future." (Olive)
"this is the first I’ve ever heard of the band and I was pretty blown away by their track “White Death” With focus on her breathy voice, you get the sense that there is something gentle and primitive about her. She sounds a lot like the dreamy pop of girls like Warpaint and Fever Ray, but a little more strange." (Friends With Both Arms)
"There has been a wealth of incantatory music recently, reminiscences of rambles across enchanted forests where the layer that separates us from the spirit world becomes translucent. Fewer have however dared to step into that glowing space. Enter Fielded, who levitate there washed by the spiritual arpeggio of a thousand white witches." (XXJFG)
